A lone wolf howls beneath the cherry blossoms.
Cherry blossoms, an iconic symbol of Japan, endure the harshness of winter before bursting into bloom in spring, only to scatter in a fleeting moment. Their strength and fragility mirror life itself, which is why I often depict them alongside wolves.
A wolf’s howl carries profound meaning. When mourning a companion who never returns, they may continue to howl for days. This piece captures one such fleeting moment in their lives.

Created using my own original dyeing technique—unlike any other in the world—born from over a decade devoted solely to painting wolves and expressing my deep love for them.
This tanzaku-format piece is inspired by the proportions of the paper strips once used for writing waka poetry during Japan’s Heian period. It is a shape that lives on today in modern Tanabata wish strips, preserving a quiet thread of Japanese culture across centuries.
