Although wolves are often perceived as fierce animals, they possess a rich and nuanced language of expression. One of my favorite behaviors is the way they gently bury their faces into the fur of a companion or rub against one another in quiet affection. This piece captures and preserves one of those tender moments. The work is dyed in subtle gradations of soft scarlet hues, expressing fleeting warmth and quiet tenderness. In Japanese culture, scarlet has long been regarded as a protective color believed to ward off misfortune and evil spirits. Through this work, I hope to offer not only beauty, but also a sense of protection and peace to the home in which it resides. As an artist specializing exclusively in wolves, I have spent more than a decade exploring their presence, spirit, and emotional depth through my work. This piece was created using my original dyeing technique, developed from the traditional Okinawan Bingata dyeing method and refined into my own unique artistic process.

Cherry blossoms, an iconic symbol of Japan, endure the harshness of winter before bursting into bloom in spring, only to scatter in a fleeting moment. Their strength and fragility mirror life itself, which is why I often depict them alongside wolves. A wolf’s howl carries profound meaning. When mourning a companion who never returns, they may continue to howl for days. It is a shape that lives on today in modern Tanabata wish strips, preserving a quiet thread of Japanese culture across centuries.

猛 ▶︎F3号 ▶︎オリジナル染色技法 ▶︎宮古島織物、胡粉、金沢金箔 ▶︎制作年2026年 こちらは、宮古島の伝統織物で、芋の繊維を織った薄い麻の反物です。その名を宮古上布と言います。 そちらを許可を得て私の染色技法で染め、黒い絹の反物を張り込んだ上にパネル貼りした二重構造となっております。 また初の試みとなる金箔ですが、工芸を扱う身として伝統工芸品の反物には伝統工芸士の方が作り出した金箔をと思い、作品に使用しています。 今作はオオカミの持つハートの強さと魂の美しさ神秘さをより全面に出した作品となりました。オオカミは古来からお家を護り、作物を護る神として崇められており今もなオオカミ信仰が続いている生き物ですので、お客様の大切なものもを守ってくれるパートナーとしてお迎え頂けたらなと思い制作いたしました。 ※イメージ写真も追加いたしました ∵＊∵＊∵＊∵＊ ▶︎F3 Size ▶︎Original dyeing technique based on traditional Bingata ▶︎Miyakojima textile, gofun pigment, Kanazawa gold leaf This work is created using Miyako Jofu, a traditional textile from Miyako Island in Okinawa, Japan. Woven from fine ramie fibers, it is renowned for its extraordinary lightness and delicacy, and is recognized as one of Japan’s most treasured traditional textiles. With permission, I dyed this precious fabric using my own original dyeing technique. The dyed Miyako Jofu is then mounted over black silk, creating a layered structure that enhances both depth and luminosity within the piece. This artwork also marks my first use of gold leaf. As an artist working with traditional Japanese crafts, I felt it was important to use gold leaf created by master traditional artisans, allowing different forms of Japanese craftsmanship to coexist within a single work. For over twelve years, I have devoted my artistic practice exclusively to wolves. Working at the intersection of traditional Japanese dyeing and fine art, I create one-of-a-kind paintings on silk kimono fabrics using an original technique developed through years of experimentation. In this piece, I sought to express the strength of the wolf’s heart, the beauty of its spirit, and the mystery that surrounds its existence. In Japanese folklore, wolves have long been revered as guardians of homes, crops, and travelers. Their worship continues in various regions of Japan even today. My hope is that this wolf may become a quiet guardian for its future owner—a trusted companion that watches over the things they hold most dear.

In Japan, it is known as Tenrōsei (the Wolf Star). I have always felt a natural affinity between Sirius—a star that guides the way—and the wolf, a sacred creature believed to guide both people and gods. May this wolf bring guidance, protection, and happiness to its keeper. This artwork was created using an original dyeing technique developed from the traditional Okinawan art of Bingata. Through this unique process, I continue to explore the spirit and symbolism of wolves, dedicating my artistic practice exclusively to their portrayal. As one of the very few artists in the world working solely with wolves through an original silk-dyeing technique inspired by Bingata, each piece reflects a lifelong dialogue with this remarkable animal.
